May 17, 2017 Wednesday – Legislative Update, Child Custody bill

ONLY 3 MORE LEGISLATIVE DAYS LEFT.

We need to stop HB239 from passing.  House Bill 239 is a custody bill that fails to promote equal access for children to both parents and does not rely upon evidence based research. As written, HB239 does not change the concept of one parent win and one parent lose practice, we are asking that you contact the Senate Leadership today.

***********************************************************************

We would rather have no bill passed than to adopt a bill that reaffirms the current practices. We do not want HB 239 to be placed on the Senate Special Order Calendar during the 2017 legislative session

***********************************************************************

Please take 2 minutes and make 2 calls and send 2 emails TODAY – contact Senator Del Marsh and Senator Jabo Waggoner. Phone numbers/emails and a short scripted message are below.

Senator Del Marsh – Senate Pro Tem

Senator Jabo Waggoner – Chair of Senate Rules Committee

See sample script below.

As leadership in the Senate, you have the power to stop HB239. Clearly, Senator Stutts’ (SB186) does the better job at equal access for children, resulting in better outcome for children, families, and our state. I appreciate Senator Marsh co-sponsoring SB186.

We humbly ask you do what’s in the best interest of Alabama families by declining to place House Bill 239 – The Child Custody bill on the Special Order Calendar this session.

Maybe in the off season things can be worked out for next year.
